The Blue House is an art and furniture gallery that was founded in 2015 with a clear avant-garde philosophy. Our doors open to invite all those interested in good design to a place where they can find pieces with an international aesthetic that values local production and talent.
For most people, 2020 was a year of introspection. For us, it was the perfect opportunity to look inward and begin to value what is ours. Even in the midst of the pandemic, we were surprised by the response we received from our clients. As a country, we entered a more conscious level of local consumption. Without a doubt, this was what allowed us to continue moving forward when the Colombian economy was severely affected.
Today we are proud to have our own workshop, with a team of trained cabinetmakers who work with wood as a craft, carrying out 70% of the production process with their own hands. Arts & Crafts speaks of a legacy of arts and crafts in danger of extinction, practices left behind thanks to the automation of processes, the use of machines and the famous planned obsolescence. It is now when producing with the hands becomes a task that represents a culture, a set of knowledge that seems to be outdated for this century; however, at TBH we believe that handmade is synonymous with quality, a duality that we seek to represent through our products, the artisanal with the avant-garde, something new and something that is part of our history, an international style made by Colombian hands.
Within our artisanal portfolio there are all kinds of products for the home, from a chair to a bookcase. Each piece that passes through this workshop is made using wood from reforested forests. Currently, a large part of the waste is being used as dry material for composting. Our goal for next year is to find different ways to continue reducing the carbon footprint present in our furniture. We want The Blue House to be, in addition to a home, a respite for the planet.
