Discover the design trends exhibited at La Feria de Diseño 2022
On July 14, 15 and 16, the ninth edition of La Feria de Diseño, the largest exhibition and business platform for the design industry in Colombia, was held. We had the honor of participating alongside SinMente with a stand that focused mainly on experiences revolving around avant-garde furniture, good drinks, local talent and the pleasure of living in unique spaces.
At this event it was not only possible to find hundreds of companies and professionals in categories such as furniture, interior design, finishes, industrial design, lighting and architecture, but it was also possible to glimpse the latest design trends that are beginning to emerge from these creative faculties.
In this blog we bring you a selection of our favorite design trends exhibited at La Feria de Diseño, which we were able to capture through coolhunting, evaluating those that were present at the stands of various brands, causing great impact.
Coffee Table Books: Decorative Books
These decorative pieces are becoming more and more fashionable, since more than just an ornament, they are a sign of your personality and your tastes, which make your spaces much more interesting and unique. These pieces can range from fashion, architecture and cooking, to photography, tourism and history; the important thing is –when choosing one to place on your coffee or library tables– to take into account its design, color, size and content so that it can harmonize with the furniture.
BOOKS FOR U, a brand where books become art with their coffee table books, was one of our favorites, since it aligns with what we always seek to reflect: making each room a reflection of the person who lives in it.

Monochromatic spaces
One of the current major trends in the world of design is the monochromatic style, both in clothing and interiors, and this was not ignored during the Design Fair. Characterized by using the same color palette so that a single tone predominates, this style was adopted by several brands and was present in their stands by integrating their color of choice into walls, floors, furniture, lighting and other accessories.
There is the case of Roca and Cimbrados, two brands that joined forces to recreate a French garden in the colour of 2022, very peri, achieving an elegant, fresh and highly impactful display; Sielu Design, who played with pastel yellow to complement their lighting, allowing it to be the protagonist; Parque Explora, which with its iconic red colour provided the fair with energy and dynamism; and in the same way, Berer Studio used its brand colour, a bright yellow, to create a stand that radiated creativity, fun and brilliant ideas.

Experiences around the product
Design is a field that, if explored in the right way, can open the doors to a universe of possibilities, one of which is creating experiences around the product. During the fair, it became clear that consumers are no longer looking for shop windows to browse, but rather connecting with brands on a deeper level, playing with their tastes, lifestyle and aesthetics. They are now more aware of the space they inhabit and have much clearer needs, so, in addition to harmony and beauty, they seek functionality in design, creating experiences and environments that bring them well-being and satisfaction.
Some of the brands that went out of the box and created unique experiences aligned with their products, communication and consumers were Hatsu, with a booth where its colorful bottles were the protagonists; Zona E, which brought its magazine to life-size, where everyone could be the cover; Uno Agencia, with a traveling experience around colors and what each one transmits; Makata Studio, which allowed its viewers to see the digital illustration process of its pieces live through large screens; and finally, our stand with SinMente, which had as its main attraction the Why Not Blue? bar, where everyone who visited us could enjoy a cocktail inspired by our brand pillars, in the comfort of The Blue House furniture.

LED lighting
LED lighting was one of the trends that had great strength in this edition. It was used in multiple ways, as well as in different shapes and colors, to create surprising effects in each stand. Its low energy consumption, its versatility, and its striking and original way of giving personality to the spaces as part of the decoration made this trend quite popular among the exhibiting brands.
Some of our favorite compositions using this lighting were those of Pq Escala, with its very Instagrammable LED spot; Alfa, with lights and signs that complemented its colorful walls; as well as other brands that embraced this trend, such as Pintuco, Postobón, Hatsu, Makana, among others.

Geometric patterns
A trend that came to add visual interest, dynamism and break up solid colors. Geometric patterns on walls, floors and even textile pieces such as rugs and curtains add an avant-garde touch to spaces. This resource breaks down monotony and rigidity, giving way to fluidity, movement, and aesthetic chaos that ends up becoming a work of art.
The best example of this trend was the Smeg Colombia stand with its Dolce & Gabana edition, Sicily is my love. Its colors, shapes, textures and designs inspired by Italy were not only present on its parades, but also on its products, creating functional and aesthetic pieces that were completely out of the ordinary.
