Turn your space into a gallery! Tips and reasons to have artwork at home

At The Blue House we are more than excited to share with you our collaboration with curator Lucrecia Piedrahíta, who has brought to life 'Poéticas del Paisaje', an experience that allows all our visitors to approach and integrate into their homes the work of artists, architects, designers and great creative talents of our country. For this reason, in this blog we give you a few tips and some reasons to include art at home.

1. Find the perfect place for each work

Every space has a different potential, so it depends on each person which piece of work looks best in it. For example, the living room is ideal for placing eye-catching pieces that become the focal point, such as a large painting above the sofa or a sculpture in a corner. For the dining room, we recommend opting for works that generate conversation, such as abstract paintings or photographs. And in the case of your bedroom, it is best to choose works that create a relaxing atmosphere, such as soft paintings, photographs of landscapes or even making a personalized gallery on one of its walls.

2. Combine art with furniture

The combination of art and furniture can give life to a harmonious and elegant space, even a work, with its colors and style, can be the pillar that defines the rest of the furniture.

Some things to keep in mind, for example, are colors and style. Coordinate the colors of your artwork with the tones of your furniture. This can help create a visually pleasing aesthetic. Also, if you have contemporary furniture – like ours – a great bet is to combine it with modern or abstract artwork.

3. Create a narrative from works

Art, beyond being a simple decoration, reinforces the style of the space, the personality of those who inhabit it and transmits a message to those who visit.

It tells stories and conveys emotions, so think about how you can tell your own story through the works you choose.

What you can do to start is to think of a common theme for the works you choose, for example, if you love nature, you can collect works that represent landscapes. Then, you can create a thematic collection that grows over time by adding new pieces.

4. Some reasons to have art at home are

  • Art makes any space look elegant and sophisticated.
  • Stimulates inspiration and concentration.
  • It is subjective, and that is why it is for everyone. There will always be a piece, an artist or a movement that represents each person's personality and style, and also the identity they want to give to their space.

We want to break down the idea that art only exists in museums or that it is exclusive and even excluding, and thus give way to a new perception: art is for everyone and for every space.

That is why, from September 13 to November 13, our visitors will be able to discover the latest trends and find, for a wide range of prices, original pieces by local artists ranging from photography, drawings and sculptures, to illustrations and paintings.
