The Blue R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Renew

The Blue R's: Reduce, Reuse, Renew

At The Blue House we are aware that the increase in furniture waste has an increasingly greater environmental impact, which we see reflected in data such as these.

*On average, Colombian families change furniture every 4 or 5 years.

*Waste consisting of wood, metal, foam, plastic and glass often ends up in landfills or incinerated.

*In 2020, more than 160,000 tons of waste were removed from the canals, streams, rivers, wetlands and sewers of the Colombian capital.

*During the month of December in Colombia, home renovations are usually carried out, where the items that are thrown away the most are mattresses, furniture, clothing and appliances.

*Due to global warming, it is estimated that by 2050 the average temperature of the Earth will have increased by 4 degrees compared to the current average.

It is clear that by frequently disposing of this type of item, our environmental footprint increases because the carbon contained in wooden furniture returns to the environment when it is incinerated, materials such as plastics and foams can take centuries to degrade, and each component is highly polluting if not disposed of correctly.

Our challenge is to create functional and attractive pieces while innovating in the search for more sustainable alternatives. With this objective in mind, we began to develop an initiative where, in addition to transforming and using, we also RE-THINK and REUSE; finding a new way to be greener and extend the useful life of some of our products through REUPHOLSTERY and RESTORATION.

We believe in nature and recognize it as our guide; in addition to being a new service, our initiative “The Blue R's” (Reduce, Reuse, Renew) is a way to contribute to caring for the environment, offering each client the possibility of restoring their piece of furniture, giving it a new life with the least possible waste.

Every action counts, let's take care of our planet by changing blue to green.
