This is how we make our planet a greener place
We believe in nature and recognize it as our guide, so today, April 22, we join the celebration of World Earth Day by presenting you the conscious materials, eco-friendly processes and sustainable products through which we contribute to the care of the environment at The Blue House.
One meter matters!

We created an alliance with O2 Reserve to conserve square meters of tropical rainforest in the Magdalena Medio. For every $500,000 in purchases, our clients will receive a certificate of conservation of one square meter of native Colombian forest, through the actions carried out by O2 Reserve in this territory.
To date, with the help of your purchases, we have conserved 36,000 m2 of tropical rainforest, thereby achieving carbon capture equivalent to 4.2 tons per hectare per year.
Certified Wood
All of our wood products are made from legal and certified natural oak, from reforested forests, cultivated to responsibly use all their resources. This model of sustainable forest management allows us to continue filling your homes with the warmth of this material, in a conscious and responsible way.
Eco-fabric

We developed a new line of products with 100 percent sustainable material, made up of 50% recycled PET plastic bottles and the other 50% leftover manufacturing waste, which provides the color, so that we do not have to use chemicals or dyes.
A novel textile that inspires us to seek more paths towards sustainability, that drives our creativity to innovate, and that today is part of our decorative chairs, hammocks, cushions, blankets, placemats, among others.
Responsible packaging

We know that a large part of the world's pollution is due to the use of plastic, so at The Blue House we look for greener alternatives to reduce its impact. This is how we found stretch wrap and bubble wrap that have an additive that allows these materials to degrade in a period of 3 to 5 years, when normally they could be on the planet for almost 500 years.
On the other hand, the corrugated cardboard we use for furniture packaging is 100 percent recycled, so for every ton of paper and cardboard that is recycled, we avoid the felling of 18 trees. In this way, we protect and transport our furniture while taking care of the environment.
Turning waste into green
Our wood chip waste receives a second use, being used to convert it into compost. These leftovers from our workshop – obtained by polishing and working the wood – are used as dry material for composting, in order to prevent between 8 and 15 bales of this material per month from ending up as garbage.
Energy efficiency

In our quest to be more efficient with the energy consumption of our establishments, we found NEU, our new 100% smart and digital electricity supplier. With their help, we are able to control our energy consumption through analysis and statistics, thus generating sustainability and savings metrics, as well as the possibility of consuming clean energy without having our own solar panels.
No wasted materials
In order to take advantage of all our materials and look for new ways to create unique pieces, integrating our sustainable and artisanal processes, the leftover wood scraps that come out of our workshop are transformed and hand-carved to give life to our new collection of accessories, thus achieving a circular economy, through use and disposal in favor of the greatest possible reuse and recycling.
Bioleathers

Since leather is a material derived from nature, we seek to preserve its inherent properties, keeping it in the purest possible state. That is why we have partnered with Biocueros – a company that produces chrome-free leather – to create a new line of innovative and sophisticated furniture.
By eliminating metal in the treatment of this leather, we manage to reduce its biodegradation time from 30-50 years to just 3-5 years, 20% of water consumption and pollution from harmful chemical compounds for the environment. This is how we take this waste from the meat industry – used for thousands of years in our culture – and transform it into a recyclable, renewable and sustainable material.
The Blue R's: Reupholstery Service
At The Blue House we are aware that the increase in furniture waste has an ever greater environmental impact, which is why our challenge is to create functional and attractive pieces while innovating in the search for more sustainable alternatives.
With this objective, we began to develop an initiative where, in addition to transforming and using, we also RE-THINK and REUSE; finding a new way to be greener and extend the useful life of some of our products through REUPHOLSTERY and RESTORATION.
This is how our initiative “The Blue R's” (Reduce, Reuse, Renew) was born. A way to contribute to caring for the environment, offering each client the possibility of restoring their piece of furniture, giving it a new life with the least possible waste.
Green delivery
Through an alliance with Movee Eco Logística, many of our products are being delivered in 100% electric vehicles. Thanks to this sustainable mobility alternative, we are able to contribute to the conservation of air purity, raise environmental awareness, achieve greater energy efficiency and generate fewer CO2 emissions.
Textiles OnA
Juliana Correa, designer and creator of the OnA brand, is an artist endowed with talent, sensitivity, and a love for nature. Together, we present a collection of products to dress the table that consists of placemats, centerpieces, and table runners, with a clear message about the importance of changing our habits to ones that are more conscious of Mother Earth.
Eco-Art
Another local artist brings to life curious creatures and figures using the origami technique, using ecological papers extracted from different types of fibers, manufactured by processing leftover food and other organic waste, which replace up to 40 percent of wood pulp.
Eco materials

We combine recycled textiles with resin to create a solid base with which we now manufacture surfaces for side and coffee tables. The aesthetics, durability and quality of this material open up a range of possibilities for us to –step by step– bring new designs and products to life.
Casatrama
A guest brand – now part of our brand – committed to traditions, good design and production processes based on nature. Starting from recycled materials, Casatrama reflects and reinterprets craftsmanship, thus creating aesthetic and sustainable pieces.
