Women's Day Special: Meet Elisa Ortega
This Women's Month we have interviewed three women we deeply admire. In this edition we will introduce you to Elisa Ortega, industrial designer and partner of 5Sólidos, an internationally renowned architecture and design studio. Read on to learn a little more about her:
Tell us a little about yourself. Who are you as a professional and as a woman?
“I am an Industrial Designer from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín. I currently direct the interior design department at 5Sólidos, the company where I have worked for 8 years and of which I am also a partner.”
“I am a calm, creative, focused woman. I am very passionate about what I do, I put all my effort into it, and I want my work to speak for me.”
What makes you proud to be a woman?
“I am proud of everything about being a woman. I believe that we have the ability to see the world in a very unique way, that we bring a different perspective, and this is very important in the world of design. I believe that many of the experiences we have to face as women teach us to see a portion of things that are not shown to the naked eye.”
What role do you think women play in the home today?
“Whatever she wants. I think it is something very individual for each one.”
How do you transform a space into a home?
“There is a saying that I like a lot, it goes something like a home is a collection of the things we love. And I think that is what makes a space a home: when the objects that make it up have meaning, when they have a value that is not only aesthetic but also emotional, a value that only those who inhabit the space see.”
What are your favorite The Blue House pieces and how do you think they allow you to express your femininity?
“I have several. The Bergen Sofa, which I find to be a very practical sofa because it has different compositions that can be adapted to different needs, and I think that femininity, my femininity, is also a bit like that: practical, adaptable. There are several new products that I really like for this very reason.”
